President of CPGPS, Dr. Gao committed as two session Chairs of XXII FIG congress

President, Yang Gao attended XXII FIG International Congress held in Washington DC at April 19-26, at Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. Dr. Gao is committed as two Session Chair: Geodetic Problems and Solutions and Integration of Technique.

CPGIS committee wiil meet CPGPS committee in Nanjin CPGIS convention 

Dr. Gao will attend CPGIS Nanjing conference and will dicuss various issues associated with an organisation including student awards. CPGIS committee will meet CPGPS committee in Najing

The second CPGPS BOD committee meeting via Email

 The second CPGPS bod committee meeting start from the midddle of April via Email for discussion of work plan and development strategy next year and CPGPS conference organization in 2003. 

Chinese Newspaper report CPGPS establishment

Chinese Newspaper published the establishment of the International Association of Chinese Professionals in Global Positioning Systems, CPGPS in April. 

  Deep sorrow of the death of Prof. Wang, Zhizhuo

On behave of CPGPS, Dr. Gao expressed our deep sorrow of the death of Prof. Wang Zhizhuo. Prof. Wang was an internationally acclaimed distinguished scientist and educationalist and had made significant contributions to the field of photogrammetry and remote sensing, and many other areas beyond. His pass is a big loss to the geomatics community and the science. He will be remembered by all of us.

ANNUAL BEST STUDENT PAPER COMPETITION
                           2002

To encourage and reward outstanding contributions made by our student members on scientific developments and applications of Satellite Position Systems and technology, CPGPS holds its annual best student paper competition at its annual conference. 

The award committee of CPGPS encourages all student members to participate in this important annual CPGPS event.

1) Number of Awards and Prizes:
There are two types of awards for this competition: travel awards and the best paper award. The travel awards are to support first round winners to present their papers at the annual conference. The best paper will then be selected from these papers based on both the presentations and the written papers.

Travel awards:
- Up to two travel awards will be granted for the student author to participate in the student paper competition session at the annual conference. 
- The award amount is $200 US dollars.
- A paper certificate for each travel award will be issued.

Best Student Paper award: 
- Only the best paper will received prizes unless there is a tie. In case of a tie, all tied papers will be awarded.
- Prizes: the first author of the best paper will receive a monetary award ($200 US dollars) and a plaque as the certificate. The coauthors will receive paper certificates for the award.  In case of a tie, the first authors of the papers will share the total amount of monetary prize.
- The student author(s) of the winning paper(s) along their advisors will be featured in the News Letter.
- Participating papers which have not been published in journals will be recommended for publication in J. of CPGPS if they succeed in the review process.
- The awards will be presented at the Annual CPGPS conference

2) Eligibility:
- The first author of the paper must be a student member of CPGPS with annual dues paid
- The paper has not been used to apply for other awards
- To claim the awards, the authors must present the papers at the annual conference.
